What better way to finish the year than with the launch of a brand new website for a very happy client? That was just one of the highlights from the Delicious Media studio in December. There was no chance of winding down, with last minute projects keeping the team busy right up until Christmas…
New website launched!
This project involved creating a LearnDash LMS integrated with WooCommerce for sales for a business selling soft skills training to businesses and individuals. We also created a user guide and delivered training with the client to explain the process of updating the website and adding new content into LearnDash. All our new websites come with a 180-day warranty should there need to be any amends after the site has launched and we will be provide ad hoc support should the client need it in the future.
Getting ready to launch a WooCommerce site – basket customisations
In November we restarted an ecommerce project that we began pre-Covid and December saw us progressing with this ready to launch in early 2023. Some of the custom functionality we added included the ability to share the contents of the shopping basket with their customer support team to help resolve any issues during the buying process.
The site will contain thousands of products when it goes live, and these are being added to the site by the client after some hands-on training and support from us.
Custom LearnDash functionality for overriding standard quiz settings
An existing LearnDash client wanted to limit the number of times a learner can retake a quiz then have the option for a course moderator to override the restriction for individual learners. This can be achieved with the standard LearnDash functionality, however, it will automatically delete previous attempts at the quiz once the quiz is reset. The client wanted to retain previous quiz attempts for each learner, even after they’ve reached the limit and then being given access to take the quiz again.
The system now shows a message on screen to the learner, and sends an email to an assessor once the limit has been reached to let them know the learner can’t progress. After review, the course leader can authorise the learner to retake the quiz. This now works without deleting any previous quiz attempt data.
Plugin conflict investigations and resolutions!
We were approached by a client experiencing issues with their WooCommerce checkout process. An end of year sale encouraging the purchase of multiple courses brought to light a technical glitch where the basket would hang and the customer couldn’t complete the purchase. The issue only affected customers purchasing more than one course, so we got to work to eliminate possible causes and fix the problem.
After disabling all plugins one by one and testing the site, we eventually found a plugin that had been installed to process external links which was causing an issue with the WooCommerce checkout. The plugin was stalling as it scanned for external links in the Terms & Conditions document at the checkout, causing the whole page to hang. Thankfully, this was a known fault for the plugin developer and the solution was a lot simpler (and quicker!) than the task of finding the issue and involved checking a box in the plugin’s settings.
Hosting takeover for an NHS client
One of our NHS clients was left without hosting just before the Christmas break as their provider was no longer able to accommodate their four websites. We stepped in at the last minute to transfer their websites across to our server, ensuring all NHS security and setup requirements were met.
Co-working day in December to scope out a new project
The highlight of the month was our team co-working day. In November, we were approached by a client to develop several online delegate directories for a series of events they are hosting in the built environment sector. The deadline on this project was tight; the end of January (!), so December’s co-working day was a chance for the team to get together and scope out the project and create a plan of action to tackle the client’s brief and meet the deadline. More details on this project to follow!
